Scor: Congratulations to our newly crowned All Ireland Scor Champions: Ina, Derabhla, Courtney, Aine, Shane, Lorcan and Karl who brought home the National title in the Leiriu competition on Sunday and to Zoe who was author of the piece. The team had travelled north to Belfast’s Waterfront Hall to contest the 2017 final. The polished group of young actors earned their place in the national final on merit having recorded victories at parish level, Roscommon and Connacht. Pitted against them in Belfast were first time finalists from the Tadhg Mac Cárthaigh club in Cork, The Downs of Westmeath who won the title in 2015 and reigning champions Cullyhanna of Armagh. Performing third in the competition, the St. Dominic’s actors seemed at home on the large Waterfront stage and their hard work and talent was rewarded by the reactions of the thousand plus audience. Despite an excellent delivery, no one could be certain of the result as the standard from the opposition was exceptionally high. However, great scenes of joy and celebration followed the announcement by the Bean an Tí that St. Dominic’s were the All Ireland Champions, a first in the club’s history. Of course no achievement of this calibre is possible without dedication and leadership behind the scenes and so huge credit is due to Stephen Murphy and Sylvia Kilcline, for producing and directing and training the team since last October. More special still is the fact that the piece was written by 16 year old Zoe Finan from Knockcroghery, herself a Scór na nÓg participant and an extremely talented young lady. This wonderful success adds another memorable chapter to the long tradition of Scór and cultural promotion within our club, a tradition that now boasts no less than six All Ireland titles for St. Dominic’s. This outstanding achievement brings huge honour to our club and parish, and particularly to all of the parents and families of the talented young actors. So well done and congratulations to Dearbhla Mc Cormack, Courtney Kelly, Aine Keenan, Shane Murphy, Ina Van Opstal, Lorcan Mc Philips and Karol Ferrick, our 2017 All Ireland Léiriú Champions.
