Senior Football: The monthly football meeting takes place this Tuesday, 25th October at 9pm in the meeting room. U20 Football Championship: Strokestown 1-14 (17) St. Dominics  4-6 (18) St. Dominics won this thrilling U20 Division 1 encounter with a fisted Tommy Hurley point in the last minute. This was no more than St. Dominics deserved having come back from four points down after 11 minutes. Man of the match Daire Byrne stepped up with a great point in the 13th minute and then Jason Martin blasted to the net to level matters a minute later. Strokestown responded well and scored a further 1-5 before the break but Dominics showed great spirit and an Eoin McCormack goal and a Derek Doyle point left it 1-9 to 2-2 at half time. Manager Andrew Grady made a number of changes at half time adding great pace to the team and despite Strokestown adding three early points to open a seven point gap by the 40th minute St. Dominics were taking control at midfield and wiped out the deficit in an eleven minute purple patch with goals from Michael McGloin and Tommy Hurley and points from Derek Doyle, Michael McGloin and Tommy Hurley to leave St. Dominics ahead by two points with nine minutes remaining. Strokestown would not give up and forced two late points to even matters but then Tommy Hurley sliced through the defence in the 60th minute and fisted the winner for a deserved victory. St. Dominics management will be happy with the victory but know they cannot allow the opposition to dominate for large parts of the game. They will be delighted with the performances of the younger lads like Daire Byrne, Ethan Connaughton, Michael Feeley and Sean Kenny. Subs – J Finnerty for L Kenny, T Hurley for R Kilcline, M McGloin for D Gately, B O’Meara for D Doyle. Fixtures: We play Padraig Pearses and Western Gaels in the remaining U20 fixtures, the dates of which are yet to be announced.
