Cash for Clobber
Can people please bring back their Cash for Clobber bags to the Club house next weekend on Sunday morning at training time. You can contact any member of the executive if you have any bags to drop off. If you do not have Cash for Clobber bags you can use ordinary bin liner bags.
Ladies Football
Under 16
The Under 16 team defeated Four Roads last Tuesday in Four Roads. The Dominics Ladies snatched victory in the last few minutes of the game. The Under 16 girls are now in the Div. 3 Final against Kilglass Gaels this weekend. Can all girls please attend training on Tuesday.
Under 12
The U-12’s played St.Croans on Saturday morning last in Knockcroghery. It was a very tight game with neither side giving an inch. St.Dominics won by the narrowest of margins. Training continues on Tuesday at 6:30pm. Our next game is against Padraig Pearses in Woodmount (Ballinasloe) on Wednesday at 7pm. Meet at the pitch at 5:50pm. If going direct can you please be there for 6:30pm.
Ladies Junior Football
St.Dominics played St.Croans in Knockcroghery on Friday the 22nd of April. St. Croans were the stronger team on the day with their county players showing their strength and scored some great points from difficult angles. St Dominics tested players in many new positions in this the final game of the league in preparation for the championship. This will begin in May. The St Dominics girls played with great pride and spirit and never gave up. The second half performance was more representative of the ability that the St Dominics team have. Final score – St.Croans 2:11 St.Dominics 1:6.
The ladies club participated in the ladies County Board Table Quiz on Friday night last. We would like to thank all who attended and an enjoyable evening was had by all.
Ladies fixtures can be found on the Website – training for U-14’s will be starting shortly as their competition is about to start.
Minor Football
The Minor footballers are scheduled to play Clann na Gael at home on Sunday 1st May at 12 noon (to be confirmed). Training on Thursday at 8pm.
Under 16
Our U-16’s played St Ciarans on Sunday 24th; St Dominics 9-8 St Ciarans 6-12. A good second half display earned St Dominics a hard fought victory. Best for St Dominics were Kevin Byrne, Liam Kenny, Anthony O’Riordan, Sean McGloin, Senan Farrell, Jason Martin and Kenny O’Beirne. Next game is at home against Michael Glaveys on April 29th.
Under 14
U-14’s had a very good win away to Clann na Gael on Tuesday 19th April St Dominics 5-7 to Clann na Gael 2-7. Training is on Thursday at 7pm. The match which was scheduled against Boyle on the 30th April has been postponed. Good luck to all players in Feile semi final.
Under 12s, Beginners
Training for U-12’s, U-10’s, U-8’s and beginners continue on Sundays at 12.30 to 1.30. All are welcome.
Senior Football
Our Senior Footballers played Clann na Gael on Easter Sunday evening in Knockcroghery. After a poor start they went on to produce some great football. They had a convincing win by 2 points in the end. Some outstanding performances were given by Aidan Weir, Niall Beirne, Declan Dowling & Adrian Brennan.
The club would like to congratulate Michael Finneran on his great performance for Roscommon in Croke Park in the Division 4 league final against Longford even though Roscommon went down to a better Longford team on the day. Good luck to Michael and Mark Miley in New York in the first round of the Championship next weekend.
Senior Hurling
St Domnics played Tremane on Friday in the Sean Keane Cup. Tremane won – St Domnics 1-9 Tremane 2-17
Camogie
Galway League (Senior)
St. Dominics Senior camogie team recently got their campaign in the Galway League tournament off to a great start with a victory over the Athenry Junior team. St Dominic’s started the encounter very strong coming off the field with a 3:04 to 0:01 lead at half time. Athenry came out strong in the second half but could not beat the St Dominic’s defence. St Dominic’s continued to fight hard throughout the game but didn’t score as much as they did in the first half. Full time score: St.Dominics 4:7 Athenry 0:02.
St Dominic’s will now play Na Brideoga from Mayo in the next round on Easter Monday in Mayo at 5:30.
Roscommon Senior League:
St.Dominics played their second Senior League game against Oran in Knockcroghery on Sunday 17th April. It was an extremely tough game both physically and mentally for both teams. Oran held the early lead at half time 1:04 to 0:01. This score did not reflect the intensity of the game for the first 30 minutes. All the pressure was on Oran in the second half when St Dominic’s racked up two goals with approximately 5 minutes to go. When the final whistle was blown, it ended Oran 2:05 St. Dominics 2:01.
St. Dominics played Athleague in Athleague on Thursday 21st Apil in the final round of the Senior Camogie league. Once again it was a great performance from the St Dominics side but unfortunately the more experienced Athleague team pulled away with the victory in the end. The game was tight for 50 minutes, with the half time score level St.Dominics 1:02 Athleague 0:05. St Dominics continued to fight hard, but the experience of Athleague’s previous senior camogie encounters stood to them on the day. Final score Athleague 1:14 St.Dominics 1:04.
Under 14
St. Dominics U-14’s were defeated by Roscommon Gaels recently in another well fought battle. The half time score was Roscommon Gaels 0:01 St.Dominics 0:00. The contest continued throughout the second half. St Dominics had plenty of opportunity to score but unfortunately the luck was not with them on the day. Roscommon Gaels emerged victorious with the final score at 1:03 to no score.
Congratulations
The club would like to congratulate Dan Doolin from Bogganfinn, Ballymurray and Orlet Laheen from Menlough Co Galway the very best on their recent marriage. May they have many years of happiness together.
