Senior Football: U21 B Football Semi-Final: St. Dominics lost out by the narrowest of margins 1-9 (12) to 2-5 (11), to a strong Oran team in Knockcroghery on Sunday last. Conditions made it difficult for football but both teams gave it everything. St. Dominics had the strong breeze in the first half but found it difficult to score and corner back Brendan O’Meara had our first two points in the 8th and 9th minute. This was added to by Kenny O’Beirne in the 11th minute. Oran then hit on the break and levelled matters with a goal. O’Beirne added another point in the 18th minute which Oran cancelled out a minute later but in the 25th minute Dominic’s Jason Martin fisted a Tommy Hurley punt to the net. Again, a late Oran attack yielded a point to leave it 1-4 to 1-2 at the break. Oran looked strong early in the second half scoring three points but Colm Murray had it level again with a point in the 42nd minute. Despite playing very well Dominics could just not get the vital scores and Oran using the wind well scored three further points. Then with 3 minutes remaining Tommy Hurley crashed a great shot to the net to level matters. A late free for Oran was converted well to snatch victory and so Dominics bow out of their last ever U21 Championship.
