Senior Football: Intermediate Football Championship: St. Dominics guaranteed themselves at least a quarter final place in this year’s Championship with a win over St. Aidans on Sunday last on a scoreline of 2-14 to 2-8. Dominics laid the foundation for victory with a slick first half performance in which our forwards turned possession into scores, most of which were well worked team efforts. Dominics led 1-4 to 1-2 after 15 minutes having allowed Aidans in for a soft goal. Dominics scores came from E McCormack (2), C Fallon, K O’Beirne and a D. Donnelly goal. From here until the break Dominics played their best football and a M. Finneran goal and points from D Donnelly (3) and C Fallon left it 2-8 to 1-4 at the break. Early second half points from M. Finneran and C. Fallon opened up a nine point gap. Dominics then relaxed and Aidans took advantage and indeed had the gap down to three points when they converted a 54th minute penalty but further points from C. Fallon (2), D. Donnelly and man of the match E. McCormack secured victory. Team: M. Miley, P Joyce, D. Corcoran, M. Byrne, M. Grady, R. Byrne, T. Gately, M. Finneran (1-1), P. Dolan, B. O’Meara, C. Fallon (0-5), N. Carney, K. O’Beirne (0-1), E McCormack (0-3), D. Donnelly (1-4), Subs – A. Naughton for R Byrne, J. Martin for P Dolan, S. Farrell for N. Carney, U Kelly for K O’Beirne.
